Udaipur- the beautiful city of lakes has its tradition of living in conversation with water. So, when LSDA was approached for landscape design of a house on a 2200 sqmt plot in Udaipur, the first reaction was to play with this very tradition, yet in a contemporary way. The concept was to design the landscape wrapped around a central water feature which sat next to the living room of the house, with water flowing in and out at various levels and locations through the entire landscape. Structurally, the design consists of a driveway leading to a drop off plaza which in turn leads to the house through a path next to central water-body and the main lawn. The outdoor dining area and play areas are placed at the rear to give them their privacy. Given the hot climate of the area for most part of the year, the garden is mostly used in the evenings and thus lighting played another important role in creating the ambience. The otherwise subtle lighting creates dramatic effects by carefully highlighting the various spouts and cut jaalis. Added with the sensory experience of sound of flowing water and fragrance from the flowering trees, the garden boasts of an experience no photograph can do justice to.
